Albert Guigui-Theral

Algerian-born French anarchist, militant syndicalist, mechanic and French Résistance fighter.

In February 1943, Albert Guigui, a printing corrector in Toulouse, resistant under the name of Varlin, left for London alongside Jean Moulin. He handed General de Gaulle a memorandum on the risks to the French working class if a call for a general strike were launched without being synchronized with the Allied landings. Varlin defends his position in a meeting chaired by Jean Moulin. He was heard.

In the same year, Varlin represented the clandestine CGT in London with De Gaulle and obtained the creation of a support fund for the unions. For example, the Central Bureau of Intelligence and Action (BCRA) paid a French-English-American envelope to the clandestine CGT for several months.

In 1944, he participated in the Philadelphia Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Albert Guigui returned to France during the Liberation. After the war he obtained a post in Geneva within the ILO. He died on 5 August 1982 in Thonex.
