Léo Voline

Leo Eichenbaum was one of the sons of the Russian anarchist activist and theorist Volina and Anna Grigoriev. In 1935, he had dropped out of school to work to support his family (his father, his mother and his mother's 4 children) who then resided 22 square Jean Thébaut (15th arr.).

A member of the group of the 15th of the young people of the French-speaking anarchist federation, he collaborated in the organs Terre libre and Le Combat syndicaliste in particular by drawings, newspapers that he broadcast in the scream. He also participated in the meetings of the anarchist synthesis group organized by his father, and those of the Single Union of Building (SUB) held on the Labour Exchange.

During the strikes of May 1936, he had gone to supply his half-brother Georges who occupied the Marcel Bloch factory (DassaultDassault).

On the evening of October 16, 1936, during a passive defense exercise where it was forbidden to turn on the lights, with several members of his group, he lit a large fire house in a vacant lot of the 15th when the planes flew over the capital.

In early January 1937, with 5 other members of the group – including Michel Kovetski, Jacques Letellier, Alicia de Gamboa and René X – he left for Barcelona to join a confederal column. His first intention was to engage in Republican aviation, having a training as a radio-navigant, but eager to join the front, he enlisted in a libertarian column. He was part of a group of dynamitors on the Teruel front.

According to Léo Voline, the assassination of Durruti in November 1936 by the Communists was no doubt. In April 1938, during a prison in Cerbère, he had even met a young Corsican, André Paris, who would have been part of the communist commando.

Returning to France, Léo Voline continued after the Second World War to maintain contact with the libertarian movement. In 1986, he originally edited the book of his father The Unknown Revolution.

Léo Voline died in Clamart on August 5, 2002.
