Giuseppe Rose

Italian anarchist , painter and poet, born.

A very young graduate in law, he participated in the war (1943). Back in Cosenza, he began his career as a lawyer he exercised for many years. He moved to Milan and later to Switzerland, where he devoted himself to journalism. During his stay in Milan, he approached the anarchist groups with whom he sympathized. A scholar of political and social problems, he deepened the ideas of anarchism and deepened their ideologies. It was in these years that he assumed the direction of the anarchist magazine Volontà, until 1972; he was a permanent collaborator of Humanity Nova and Il Libertario.

Meanwhile, he devoted himself to the care and translation into Italian of several foreign works, among others the essay by Michail Bakunin, God and the State. Among his publications: Marxism and Bolshevism in the face of the problem of self-management and The apories of libertarian Marxism.

Disappeared prematurely in the summer of 1975, Rose left two important works: the Bakunin Bibliography, published posthumously by the Anarchism editions as a premise to the Complete Works of Bakunin, and the Bibliography of anarchism, unfinished, whose preparatory materials appeared in two issues of the magazine Will (6/1975 and 2/1976). His personal library, of great value for the ancient and rare works it contains, is now deposited at the Civic Library of Cosenza.

His complex personality also led him to range in the field of painting and poetry. He held numerous exhibitions in Italy and Switzerland, obtained numerous awards, the last in Catania in 1974.
