François Juillet

A minor worker, a trade union activist, he is the founder of the Chambre syndicale de Saint Vallier (Commune near Montceau), created on May 29, 1882. Involved in the "Black Band affair of Montceau-les-Mines" secret society bringing together anarchist and revolutionary miners determined to oppose the climate of political and religious oppression imposed on the region by the manager of the Blanzy Mining Company. "La Bande Noire" having committed various attacks against religious buildings in August 1882, claimed in the newspaper "Le Révolté". The repression will not be long in coming, François Juillet is one of the twenty-three accused prosecuted from October 18, 1882 before the Assize Court of Saône-et-Loire, in Châlons-sur-Saône, and in Riom, on December 14, 1882. François Juillet received two years in prison and was released on 22 December 1883.

He then moved a lot, we follow his trace in the Doubs in 1887, then in Terrenoire, in the Loire. He returned to the Montceau region in 1890-92, then went to Rive-de-Gier (Loire) and entered the General Co. of the Rhône and Loire glasseries where he took part in the claims in this sector. Convicted several times, he was still subject to police surveillance, which did not prevent him from continuing to frequent the anarchists of the Gier Valley and making propaganda. He will then resume his first minor job in the coal basin of Brassac (Haute-Loire). Then we lose track of him.
