Aurelio Lolli

It was still a teenager that Aurelio Lolli had joined Castel Bolognese in the anarchist movement where he became friends for life with the companion Nello Garavini. In 1916, he helped found the first libertarian library of Castel Bolognese.

At the time of the First World War, he was discouraged from deserting by his family as he had envisioned. After several months in prison for leaving behind, he was sent to the Albanian front where he contracted malaria and then the Spanish flu, while his older brother Giovanni was killed at the front.

Upon his return to Castel Bolognese, he participated in the fight against the rise of fascism. While many companions had chosen exile, he decided to stay at Castel Bolognese.

From the fall of fascism he was one of the companions who, reconstituted the group of Castel Bolognese adherent to the ISP. In 1973, with among others Nello Garavini and Giuseppe Santandrea, he founded a new libertarian library located in a room of which he was the owner. Left alone after the death of his sister in 1985, and for the benefit of the Library he sold his property and formed the cooperative Biblioteca libertaria Armando Borghi, of which he remained president until his death on 30 May 1999; just over two months after his 100th birthday.
