Hippolyte Havel

Czech anarchist, scholar and bohemian. editor of several anarchist publications, including the 'Chicago Arbeiter Zeitung', 'The Revolutionary Almanac' (1914), and 'Revolt' (1916). Companion of Emma Goldman, who met him in London and brought him to the States; married to the anarchist Polly Holliday, who ran the famous eponomous Greenwich Village resturant with him; friend of Eugene O'Neill, who based the character Hugo Kalmar of 'The Iceman Cometh' on him; and 'adopted' the photographer Berenice Abbott.
